Rejecting JASTA not enough: Abou El-Enein

Head of the Egyptian–European Business Council and well-known Egyptian magnate Mohamed Abou El-Enein said that rejecting the U.S approved Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA ) is not enough، pointing out that passiveness will make it a reality.

“JASTA violates UN charter، and represents a flagrant interference in states’ policies، in addition to enforcing the laws retroactively،” he said.

Abou El-Enien، during today’s meeting of Egyptian–European Business Council، called on the Egyptian parliament and other the Arab parliaments to take a decisive stand against the law.

He pointed out that he as an honorary president of the Euro-Mediterranean Parliament will express rejection of the bill، and will voice the disadvantages of the law while addressing the US-Arab Relations Council in Washington on 26 Oct.، also called on the Council members to communicate with political leaders worldwide to reject the law.

JASTA، which was recently approved by a national parliament with the aim of applying it to other sovereign countries is torpedoing the simplest principles of international law and the UN Charter.

JASTA was passed by the Congress last week، It creates an exception to the sovereign immunity law introduced in 1976، allowing Americans to sue foreign countries for acts of terrorism that kill Americans on US soil.

Abou El-Enien urged the Arab States to take advantage of upcoming U.S. presidential election and to inform the new American administration of what it is required in coming period.
