Under the Presidency of MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein: The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean Welcomes the Ceasefire Between the United States and Iran and Calls for Comprehensive Political Solutions

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, under the presidency of MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein, issued a statement welcoming the agreement reached on a ceasefire between the United States and Israel on one side and Iran on the other, considering it the end of a dangerous escalation process that had wide-ranging repercussions across the world.

The statement warned that the continuation of such escalation had been leading toward a catastrophic scenario and widespread chaos from which no country would have been immune, stressing that the agreement represents an important opportunity that must be seized to reach a fair, comprehensive, and sustainable political settlement that ensures the non-recurrence of crises and strengthens regional and international stability.

The Parliament affirmed that wars have once again proven that there are no winners, and that diplomatic solutions, respect for state sovereignty, and non-interference in internal affairs represent the only path to preserving international peace and security, rejecting the use of force as a means of resolving disputes.

It stressed the need for full compliance with the cessation of military operations across all fronts and the guarantee of freedom of international navigation, in a way that preserves the stability of global trade flows.

The Parliament of the Union for the Mediterranean praised the mediation efforts carried out by Pakistan, Egypt, and Türkiye, as well as the role played by the leadership of these countries in bridging differences and achieving this important and long-awaited breakthrough.

It also commended the responsible positions of the Gulf states, Jordan, and Iraq, which acted with wisdom and restraint, exercising their legitimate right to self-defense without sliding into direct escalation, thereby helping to contain the crisis and prevent its expansion.

The Parliament, as a unique parliamentary platform for dialogue in the Mediterranean region, reaffirmed its commitment to promoting dialogue and constructive engagement among all parties, and its readiness to contribute through parliamentary diplomacy to achieving fair and sustainable political solutions that address the root causes of regional crises, including nuclear non-proliferation issues, the implementation of the two-state solution, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in a way that achieves a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace.
