MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein: I Dream of Winning the League… Reveals Behind-the-Scenes of Al Ahly Match and Speaks About His Relationship with Zamalek
MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein, Chairman of Ceramica Cleopatra FC, stated that the team’s match against Al Ahly SC in the Egyptian Premier League is considered one of the strongest fixtures.
In remarks to the “Al Le’ba” TV program hosted by media personality Mheib Abdel Hadi, Abou El-Enein said: “This was one of the strongest matches both teams have played. Al Ahly and Ceramica Cleopatra both made tremendous efforts during the game.”
He added that football always involves luck and misfortune, noting: “We could have been luckier and scored from the last two chances, and Al Ahly could also have capitalized on one or two missed opportunities. That’s football.”
He continued: “I’m very happy that the match was played in a fair and high-level manner, and the effort from both teams was huge. I am an Al Ahly fan and I love Al Ahly—that’s a principle. But Ceramica Cleopatra is my team and my children, and I hope they succeed, win, and even compete for the league title.”
He stressed that he enjoys watching high-quality football regardless of the winner, saying he wishes to see matches defined by technical skill and strong performance from both sides.
Abou El-Enein praised the players, technical staff, and management, stating that they make great efforts, though sometimes they feel wronged by refereeing decisions or lack the luck required.
He also dismissed criticism and conspiracy theories surrounding matches, saying: “We play with full integrity. The match was intense from the first minute to the last, and in the end, victory goes to those who deserve it.”
He described coach Ali Maher as one of the best coaches he has worked with, emphasizing that the team maintains principles and never intentionally gives up matches, adding that success comes down to effort, luck, and fair competition.
On controversial online commentary, he said he does not respond to “illogical opinions,” criticizing fabricated narratives and misinformation circulating on social media.
Regarding a penalty incident in the match, he explained that it was reviewed by VAR and judged fairly, adding that the decision was correct based on the sequence of contact.
On his relationship with Zamalek SC, he stated: “There is nothing between me and Zamalek. Most of them are my friends. I am an Al Ahly supporter, yes, but I have no problem with Zamalek. Anything I can do for them, I do gladly. Sports is about respect and friendship, not hostility.”
He also commented on his refusal to allow the departure of coach Ali Maher, describing him as a key figure within the club and a core asset that cannot be replaced easily.
In closing, Abou El-Enein said: “Of course I dream of winning the league and participating in African competitions. I don’t know if we can achieve it this season, but we were very close. We led the table for a period, and then circumstances changed. That’s football—sometimes luck, sometimes injustice, sometimes just what happens.”
