Cairo witnessed an exceptional Egyptian day reflecting the grandeur of Egypt’s civilization and the strength of its soft power, as Counselor Dr. Hanafy El-Gebaly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein, Deputy Speaker of the House, accompanied a number of international parliamentary delegations on a cultural and civilizational tour that included the Grand Egyptian Museum, the Giza Pyramids, and the Great Sphinx.
The visit came within the framework of the Economic Forum of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Summit of Speakers, hosted by Egypt under the chairmanship of MP Mohamed Abou El-Enein, with the participation of parliaments from 43 countries, in addition to the European Parliament, and with high-level attendance by the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, as well as a large number of speakers of parliaments, their deputies, and representatives of international and regional organizations.
This visit comes as part of Egypt’s keenness to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy and to link political action with history and civilization, in a manner that reflects Egypt’s standing and its pivotal role at both the regional and international levels.
The tour began with a visit to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where the delegations reviewed the unique archaeological treasures housed within the museum and learned about the qualitative leap it represents in presenting ancient Egyptian history according to the latest international standards, making it a new cultural and civilizational landmark added to Egypt’s global stature.
The delegations then moved on to the Giza Pyramids, where they learned about the secrets behind their construction and the greatness of ancient Egyptian civilization, before heading to the Great Sphinx, which constituted a distinctive stop during which participants expressed their admiration for the ingenuity of the ancient Egyptians and the enduring influence of their civilization throughout the ages.
The visit also featured a special cultural lecture delivered by renowned Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, during which he addressed the history of the Pyramids and the Sphinx, as well as the latest archaeological discoveries, responding to the delegations’ questions that reflected keen interest in Egypt’s history and its role in shaping human civilization.
Members of the delegations affirmed that the visit embodied a unique experience combining politics, culture, and history, praising the excellent organization and emphasizing that what they witnessed reflects Egypt’s image as a nation of civilization, peace, and dialogue among peoples.
